Fieldwork today

I'll be in REINA (Real, Infanta and Gen. Nakar) beginning today until July 1 to continue the field mapping which I started last May 23 to June 4. This time I'm going to spend most of my time in Brgy. Magsikap and Brgy. San Marcelino. A friend warned me during my first field mapping that these two barangays are teeming with"nice" people, so I should be careful. This project was originally headed by one of my colleagues who perished during the helicopter crash.

Last night, A and I watched Star Wars Episode III for the second time. I first saw this movie last month, my first Star Wars movie that I watched from beginning to end. After I saw the film, I suddenly became an instant fan. Johnny come lately, that's who I am! I asked people around if they have DVDs or VCDs of other Star Wars episodes. Fortunately, a colleague brought the complete set of episodes (except episode 3) during our fieldwork in Infanta last month. So, everynight, after fieldwork, I rammed the cds into my laptop and watched Luke, Leia, Hans, R2D2, Yoda and Obi wan Kenobi battle with the forces from the Dark Side.

-I was shocked and deeply saddenned when I learned about the death of my colleagues. I was in Bicol when it happened. What happened to my co-geologists could also happen to me as my job requires a lot of travel. I am supposed to start a project with two of them middle of this month. It's in times like this that we are reminded of our mortality.

- I was in Bondoc Peninsula last week, and I saw the grinding poverty of the people in that place. No wonder, Bondoc is a breeding ground for communist insurgents.

-Banton Island in Romblon Province is a rustic oasis in the middle of nowhere. It's a three-hour banca ride from Romblon Island. A perfect escape from the suffocating life of Manila.
